Extra Professional Income for Dog Groomers Who Brush Pets Teeth

Extra Professional Income for Pet Groomers Who Brush Pets TeethFresh breath and beautiful white teeth are a big business, not just for humans either! Beside looking good, proper oral health is vital to the overall health of an animal. If you're a dog groomer or stylist the connection between pet oral health and periodontal disease prevention can mean earning more while you see the same number of animals. Do your customers ask if you offer tooth brushing services? Do they ask what they can do for their dog or cat's bad breath?

Consider offering tooth brushing to all your customers as an additional service. Brushing a pet's teeth once every 3 to 6 weeks will only remove the current plaque. But if the pet owner puts the Pet Oral Hygiene Solution in the drinking water, brushing will remove some tartar along with the plaque. The average charge for brushing is $8 to $14 (Some corporate grooming shops are charging $15 or more) with additional sales revenue from toothbrushes, pastes, gel and Oral Hygiene Solution.

Add Extra Income for Brushing Pets TeethLet's assume you currently groom 6 to 8 dogs a day and, of that number, five pet owners request your tooth brushing service.

Here is your potential income:

5 dogs x $8 = an extra $40/day
x 5 days = $200/week
x 4 weeks = $800/month

You sell the Triple-Pet Brush and travel size Pet Gel to the pet owner for the dog and put in a ziplock bag for them to bring back each time. Your cost of the toothbrush, gel and zip lock bag is $7.00 and you sell these three items for $12.00. This profit occurs for every first-time use of the service (approximately one-third of the dogs you see).

Consider:

  • 100 dogs a month tooth brushing = 33 sets of brushes and gel. Profit is $5.00/set = $165 retail profit/month
  • When you sell Oral Hygiene Solution (OHS) for home use, these same 33 dogs will need this product. (This means 22 bottles of the 4-oz. OHS and 11 bottles of 16-oz. OHS). Of the remaining 67 dogs, 25% will need additional OHS over the course of a month for a total of 16 additional 16-oz. OHS (assuming a 6-week cycle for the dogs you groom). Typically, two-thirds of the dogs you see will be under 20 pounds and one-third of the dogs you see will be over 20 pounds.
  • When you sell 22 4-oz. bottles of Pet Oral Hygiene Solution (item number 455) you net a profit of $66 ($3 of the $8 is profit) on the dogs 20 pounds and smaller.
  • When you sell 27 16-oz. bottles of Pet Oral Hygiene Solution (item number 456) you net a profit of $243 ($9 of the $19 is profit) on the dogs larger than 20 pounds.

This represents $309 in retail profit for the Oral Hygiene Solution.

Total income for month:

  • Addition professional fees is $800
  • Total retail profit is $165 + $309 = $ 474
  • Grand total is $1,274/month @ 12 months = $15,288/year

Your investment is approximately $510 to return $15,288/year.

This is only an example of the potential income one can make with the pet care products. As always, your income can be more or less depending on your effort and selling price.
